Artist in Training
For
students in grades 7-12
Sponsored
by The Wallace Foundation, Lexis-Nexis
and a significant anonymous contributor
These
classes prepare middle and high school students for college. Class house are Monday through Thursday from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. A portfolio review is
necessary to participate in the Artist in Training Program.
Last year, students created two significant touring exhibitions, "Technology and the Shrinking Globe" and "Dayton Inventors: The Art of Innovation."
Monthly
critiques are scheduled for the last Monday of each month to give our students real-life working experiences.
We teach both the inspiration and application of art and also how to use creative intelligence in the workplace. This allows students to truly experience different perspectives
and points of view to help transition them to college or
professional careers. Snacks are served. Program dates are year round.
Through generous support from our sponsors, the AIT program is free to all Dayton urban students.
The two-large scale exhibits planned for this year are “Through the Eyes of a Child: Children and the Holocaust” and “Emotional Awareness” an exhibit created by local professional artists and students in honor of Ryan Venys, a K12 Gallery student who recently committed suicide. Both of these planned projects will include a call for entries and interviews for participants and portfolio review.
Time:
3:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Cost: $50 per student, per week. Scholarships
are available to qualifying urban teenagers.
Registration: Call K12 Gallery at (937)
461-5149 to register or for more information.
